Exercising Dominion Through The Knowledge Of Your Identity – Part 2

“…the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?” – John 1:19 NJKV.

One of the basic questions everyone would have at one time to answer is this: Who are you? Our knowledge of who we are accounts for how we carry ourselves and live our lives. We must know who God, through Christ Jesus, made us to be. We are here on Earth for a purpose. We are not here by chance or accident. We have an assignment to execute and a destiny to fulfill. Every life has a plan from the Creator of all things.

In Luke 1:17, when the angel Gabriel was sent to Zacharias to announce the birth of his son John the Baptist, Gabriel said concerning the child to be born: “And he (John the Baptist) shall go before him (Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elias (Elijah), to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” The angel said the child John would carry the spirit and power of Elijah.

But did this John know who he was? We don’t know if his father, Zacharias, told him whilst growing up. See John 1:20 -23:

“He said quite openly and straightforwardly, I am not the Christ. And they said to him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And his answer was, I am not. So they said to him, Who are you then? We have to give some answer to those who sent us. What have you to say about yourself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the waste land, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.” (BBE)

He said he was not Elijah. The people were waiting for Elijah as prophesied about 400 years earlier by Malachi (Malachi 4:5-6). But he said he was not him. Now let us see what Jesus Christ said concerning this man. In Matthew 11:14-15 and Matthew 17:10-13, Jesus said plainly that John the Baptist was Elijah. He confirmed what the angel said to his father before his birth. The big question is: did John know the spirit and power that he carried?

This is because the spirit we carry gives us some access into certain realms of authority and power to do certain things. We all know the power that was upon Elijah in the Old Testament. This prophet called down fire from heaven three times; once to consume a burnt sacrifice (1 Kings 18:36-39), and twice against his adversaries (2 Kings 1:9-12). The point is this, because he, John the Baptist, was Elijah, a woman was raised against him who also had the spirit of Jezebel (Herodias in the Gospels), who took of his head just as Jezebel had said against Elijah in 1 Kings 19:2.

It is dangerous to be ignorant of who you truly are, as a child of God redeemed by the blood of Jesus (Rev. 5:9-10). The enemy knows your potential. He, Satan, knows the power that is released when you speak from authority in the name of Jesus; when you operate with full knowledge of the revelation of your royal priesthood status in Christ. That is when you function and executive your assignment here on Earth, knowing that you are a King and Priest unto God through Jesus Christ.

It is time we come to grips with this truth; who we really are in order to function fully and fulfill the purpose God has ordained for us all. I pray the Holy Spirit brings you the revelation of this truth in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
