Exercising Dominion Through The Knowledge Of Your Identity – Part 1

“…the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?” – John 1:19 NJKV.

One of the biggest problems of our day is identity crisis. People don’t know who they are. It is a pity when an eagle doesn’t know it is an eagle, and plays with chickens on the ground, when it is supposed to be soaring up in the skies, towering above mountains.

This is an age-long problem, right from the beginning in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 1:26, God said, let us make man in our image; and in verse 27, God made man just like Him. That is why in Psalm 82:6, it says, “You are gods. And you are children of the Most High.” The offspring of a lion is a lion. So children of God are gods. But due to ignorance, the Devil, deceiver of the nations, succeeded in deceiving man to break God’s law, into believing that eating the forbidden fruit would make them be as God, when they were already gods (like God).

A lack of the knowledge of your identity would always bring you into situations you never intended, and into servitude, when you should be ruling with power. Many of God’s children are seriously under assault from the powers of darkness because they don’t know who they are as children of God, and the children of light. Darkness can never have dominion over light in any day (John 1:5). Darkness is only powerful in the absence of true light, and knowledge is light.

God said, “…my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst” (Isaiah 5:13 KJV). Consider the angel of the LORD addressing Gideon as a mighty man of valour in a time, actually, this man is hiding from his oppressors (Judges 6:12). He didn’t know who he was. He had no knowledge God made him to be a mighty man of war. And truly, now we know from scripture, that he was truly a mighty man of war. God used him to bring deliverance to Israel from Midianites through warfare. God always addresses us the way He sees us, and not how we see ourselves.

If there is one thing we must have settled in our heart and spirit, it should be our identity in the LORD Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to redeem us from the curse of sin (Roman 6:23). He came to deliver us from the kingdom of darkness to make us children of light with power through the new birth experience. If any man be in Christ Jesus, he is a new creature, the old ways are pass, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Jesus Christ redeemed us through His own blood to make us Kings and Priests unto our God, and to reign in this life (Revelation 5:9-10). May the Almighty God, through our LORD Jesus Christ open your eyes to see, to know and to come to grips with who you are in Him. Shalom Shalom!!!
